International Student Employment

Students in the U.S. on an F-1 visa are expected to have sufficient financial resources during the time they are a full-time student so that they will not have to work. With approval, you may take a part-time job on campus up to 20 hours per week. You can work off campus only with permission from USCIS and a recommendation from CF. This permission is very difficult to obtain from USCIS and impossible during the first academic year. You must be in good academic standing. It is usually given only in cases of unexpected financial emergency. Those on F-2 (spouse or children) visas cannot work. For further information, inquire at the International Student Service Office.
